The Yorkshire Moors.
Leave the hotel and drive through Brotton you are driving straight into the North Yorkshire Moors. There are so many places to visit and things to do, it is impossible to list them all here, but here are some of the more popular attractions that our guests like to visit.
Probably the most internationally famous and within just a short drive is Goathland, known as Aidensfiled in the TV series Heartbeat. Goathland can be used as the start of the North York Moors Railway where you can ride on working steam locomotives, famous not just for Heartbeat but also the Harry Potter films. A relaxing day out that will also occupy the kids is to take a ride on a steam train from Goathland down to the market town of Pickering and view some of the moorland and Yorkshire forests along the way. At Pickering, you have many places to enjoy lunch and browse the market stalls and shops, before hopping back onto a steam engine for the return trip.
The Dalby Forest complex is managed by the Forestry Commission. Famous as the motorsport venue over the years of the World Rally Championship, it is now open to the public and in recent years has created a visitor centre and a vast complex of walking trails and cycle paths. There are now a large array of mountain bike trails suitable for people of all ages and abilities together with some great picnic areas and woods for the kids to explore.
For the less active, Dalby Forest Drive is an inexpensive toll road that allows you to drive on well surfaced roads right through the forest, stopping at the visitor centre for a snack before emerging onto the main Scarborough / Whitby road. For the more adventurous, the Langdale Quest off road driving centre is a great way to spend the day getting stuck, or for a motorsport experience, try the Chris Birkbeck International Rallyschool - spot the relationship?
